You’ll be responsible for some of the Council’s highest value contracts, such as waste and street cleansing, so a sound appreciation of contract management and quality assurance will be important. You’ll also play an involved role in the successful development of our housing company, created to accelerate the capacity to build new affordable homes in the borough. And our Planning Services will continue to be a high profile and complex service – you’ll work closely with our Head of Planning to ensure we meet or exceed service targets and that there is an effective synergy between our statutory role and our aspirations for regeneration and economic development in the borough.
You’ll also have a vital role to play outside the Council, working with partner organisations in Kent and the Thames Estuary to pursue regional regeneration and economic growth.
You can expect extensive engagement with elected members to be a priority – you’ll be a first point of contact on all strategic place and regeneration issues, so it’s essential that you can quickly bring yourself up to speed on a diverse range of service and remain on top of progress, while stepping in to unblock issues as required.
You’ll need to offer extensive senior level experience of business, regeneration and economic development, which could be in local government or in the private sector. You’ll understand the importance of partnership working and stakeholder engagement in such a role, and be able to foster positive relationships across different organisations and sectors.
