It’s an exciting time to join the council. I have recently taken on the role of Chief Executive and I have relished my first few months in post. I have been amazed at the level of dedication and enthusiasm shown by staff, working in highly complex circumstances, as we continue to adapt and flex how we work in response to the current public health climate. Throughout, I have seen a wholehearted senses of loyalty and commitment to the borough and our communities. It’s been inspiring to be part of it. We are keen to retain the agile and flexible approach that has defined how we have adapted to new ways of working.
I want to encourage a leadership culture that has collaboration at its heart . I’m keen to hear others’ ideas and perspectives, so that we can combine the best of our talents to arrive at the right decisions for Swale. By involving and devolving, we can be confident that we are getting the most from our resources, and from our people. This approach will support an organisational culture where people can see clear paths for their professional development, as we extend ownership and accountability through the organisation.
I look forward to working with the two Directors as part of the Council’s leadership team. While I’m looking for both these individuals to bring substantial technical knowledge of their subject matter, I’m also looking for effective corporate leaders, who can play their part in engaging with staff and stakeholders and assembling the right resources behind our corporate priorities.
The Head of Regeneration and Economic Development role will have a distinct focus on delivery. This person will be vital in making things happen on the ground ensuring momentum behind some of the Council’s key projects.
